🙌We are thrilled to announce a major update to RunComfy, Machine "Auto Stop".
1. Why do we need this feature?
Many users run long ComfyUI workflows and end up waiting around just to shut down the machine when it finishes. This wastes both time and money, especially when the workflow completes late at night or when you’re away from your screen. The Auto-Stop feature solves two pain points:
- No more waiting in front of your screen. Previously, you had to keep checking back to see if your tasks had finished so you could shut down the machine manually. Now, with Auto-Stop, you can walk away — we’ll handle the shutdown for you.
- Avoid unnecessary costs. Your machine shuts down automatically as soon as all tasks are done, so you won’t waste money keeping it running longer than needed.
2. How does Auto-Stop work?
Once you enable Auto-Stop, the platform automatically shuts down your machine 60 seconds after all tasks in the queue are finished. This applies whether the tasks succeed or fail. You'll receive an email confirmation along with a full shutdown log, and you can find your results in the '/ComfyUI/outputs' folder when you return.
3. How to use Auto-Stop effectively ?
Step 1: Set a proper shutdown timer (Important)
Before starting your tasks, open the Change menu and set a shutdown timer.
This defines the maximum time the machine will stay running. Make sure to allow enough time for your workflow to complete. Auto-Stop does not extend this timer. * Example: If your workflow normally runs for ~10 min, set a 15 min timer to be safe.
❓ What if the Timer Ends Too Soon? If the timer elapses mid-workflow: The machine shuts down automatically, regardless of Auto‑Stop. So always set a timer that fully covers your longest workflow.
Step 2: Enable Auto-Stop after your tasks have started
Once your tasks are up and running — and you’ve confirmed everything you need is in the queue — click the Auto-Stop button, then select “Enable”.
After enabling, the Auto-Stop button will show as “On”, indicating that Auto-Stop is now active.
Step 3: Monitor with Ease — You’re Free to Step Away
Once your workflow is running, feel free to step away — grab a cup of coffee, go for a walk or go to sleep.
Auto‑Stop handles shutdown for you, avoiding idle costs. You'll receive an email summarizing shutdown time and run log details.
❓ What if I change my mind and don’t want to use Auto-Stop anymore?
- Before the shutdown countdown starts:
- After the shutdown countdown has started:
You can click the Auto-Stop button again and select “Disable Auto-Stop” to turn it off.
Click the “Cancel and Keep Running” button. This will cancel the shutdown and automatically disable Auto-Stop for the current session. The Auto-Stop button will show as “Off”, indicating that Auto-Stop is now deactive.
Note: From that point on, you’ll need to shut down the machine manually when you're done.
Step 4: Get Notified Automatically
After the machine shuts down, RunComfy will send an automatic shutdown email to your login address. This lets you know the machine has been turned off automatically, and includes a link to the full run log for your reference.
Step 5: Where to Find Your Results
Once your machine shuts down, your results are saved under the Assets tab (Assets -> '/ComfyUI/outputs' folder). Check there when you start your machine next time.
❓ What happens if my task fails? If a task fails and ends your queue early, Auto-Stop will still shut down the machine safely. If you don’t see your expected outputs, check the shutdown log in the email you receive — it contains helpful error information and a link to the run log.
As always, let us know if you need anything in RunComfy at hi@runcomfy.com or in the discord server.
